Everton Women are set to appoint Scott Phelan as their new head coach. Phelan, who has been interim manager since February, will replace Brian Sorensen on a full-time basis.

What happened?

Phelan took over as interim manager after Sorensen's sacking in February. He immediately oversaw three successive league victories, lifting Everton out of the relegation zone.

Why it matters for Everton Women

The appointment of Phelan as head coach means that the WSL will be split evenly between men's and women's head coaches. Phelan holds a UEFA A Licence, meeting the existing WSL minimum requirement for head coaches.

What comes next?

Everton Women will enter the 2025-26 season with plenty of ambition, following their full-time move into Goodison Park and an influx of new signings, including England youth international Ruby Mace for a club-record fee of £250,000.
