Everton Women stole a 1-0 victory at West Ham United with a stoppage-time own goal on Sunday. The result extends their unbeaten run in the Women's Super League and lifts them to fifth in the table on six points.
Laia Codina's own goal in the fourth minute of added time settled a tight contest. The match had been a cagey affair, with Everton's Rikke van Gool and West Ham's Eve Cascarino both booked in the first half.
Manager Brian Sorensen made a flurry of second-half changes to find a breakthrough. Martina Pacheco, Yuka Momiki, Zala Kramzar and Riko Ishikawa were all introduced from the bench in the final 20 minutes.
The late pressure finally told when a cross into the West Ham box was turned into her own net by defender Codina. The win follows a 1-0 victory over Charlton Athletic and moves Everton to within three points of leaders Manchester City.
Everton's next challenge is a short trip to face rivals Liverpool on 27 September.
